When is an intangible asset valuation needed?

  • For contribution to the company's authorized capital

  • For litigation, audit or tax audit

  • For accounting and IFRS purposes

What is intangible asset valuation and why is it important?

Valuation of intangible assets (IVA) is the process of determining their market value. These can be trademark rights, patents, copyrights, software, know-how, goodwill. Such valuation is ordered for transactions, reporting (IFRS), litigation and tax purposes.

When is an intangible asset valuation required?

Valuation is necessary during the purchase and sale or licensing of rights, when contributing intangible assets to the authorized capital, preparing reports according to international standards, as well as in litigation, audits or tax audits.

What objects are subject to assessment?

We evaluate the following assets:
  • trademarks and brands
  • patents for inventions, utility models, industrial designs
  • copyrights
  • software products and databases
  • know-how (unique technologies, methods)
  • goodwill (business reputation) and other intellectual property rights

How is the value of NMA determined?

Proven approaches are used for valuation:
  • Income approach - discounted cash flows or royalty model;
  • Comparative approach - analysis of similar transactions;
  • Asset approach - costs of creating or reproducing an asset;
  • Expert adjustments for depreciation, risks, tax background and industry specifics are also applied.

What approaches are often used by experts?

  • The income approach (DCF, royalty model) is based on future profits from the use of the asset.
  • The comparative approach analyzes market transactions with similar assets.
  • The asset approach takes into account the costs of creating or acquiring the asset.

What does the NMA assessment report contain?

The report includes a description of the object, applied methodologies, financial calculations, conditions and limitations of the valuation. It is prepared in accordance with IFRS, legislation and is ready for submission to banks, tax authorities or the court.
