What is a securities valuation and why is it needed?

Securities valuation is a professional determination of the market value of securities, taking into account the issuer's profitability, liquidity, risks, and financial condition. It is commissioned by companies, banks, investors, and government agencies for legal, accounting, and strategic purposes.

What types of securities are subject to valuation?

The following are subject to valuation: shares (ordinary, preferred); bonds (corporate, government); bills of exchange, checks, certificates of deposit; bills of lading, privatization documents; other financial instruments confirming property rights.

In what cases is a securities valuation required?

  • redemption or sale of securities;
  • contribution to the authorized capital of the enterprise;
  • obtaining a loan secured by securities;
  • tax planning and reporting (including IFRS);
  • trust management or business restructuring.

What does the market value of securities depend on?

The price depends on market supply and demand, stock quotes, asset liquidity, profitability (actual/forecast), issuer's financial stability, risk of default or insolvency

What methods are used to value securities?

We apply certified methodologies, namely the net asset method, income capitalization, discounted cash flow (DCF), comparative approach (market-based), and risk-adjusted expert valuation.

What types of securities value are distinguished?

  • Nominal – specified in the document;
  • Issue – price at the time of initial placement;
  • Balance sheet – accounting value at the enterprise;
  • Investment – return for the investor;
  • Market – price on the open market;
  • Estimated – obtained through financial models.

How are shares valued?

For stocks, the level of control (presence of a premium or discount), dividend policy and growth rates, share in the authorized capital (<5% - simplified assessment), the issuer's prospects in the market, and the company's asset structure are assessed.

What are the specifics of the valuation of bills of exchange?

The assessment takes into account the nominal value and term, yield (discount/interest), the issuer's status and liquidity of the bill, and the legal conditions of circulation on the market.

How are bonds valued?

The coupon rate and payment period, the tax status of the bond, market supply and demand, and the issuer's credit rating are taken into account. The following valuation methods are used: discount, capitalization, comparison.
